Student Experiences
When your child walks through the doors at Rogers Elementary, they'll be greeted by friendly faces and a warm welcome. Colorful student artwork lines the hallways, celebrating creativity and pride in learning. Teachers wait at their doors to greet students by name and help them start the day feeling seen and valued. At Rogers, we believe joyful learning and high expectations go hand in hand. We’re committed to knowing every student well and making sure they get the support they need to grow, thrive, and love coming to school.
A typical day at Rogers includes:

A 90-minute reading block with direct, research-based phonics instruction grounded in the Science of Reading

A 60-minute math block focused on strong problem-solving, number sense, and reasoning skills

Small-group instruction and differentiated teaching to meet individual needs

Targeted intervention and enrichment time are built into the daily schedule

Lunch and recess to eat, play, and build friendships

A daily specials period rotating through art, music, physical education, library, and Spanish over the week
We also have a full-time instructional coach supporting high-quality teaching in every classroom, and a full-time social worker who helps students build social-emotional skills through individual support and small-group lunch groups. Beyond the classroom, students enjoy our large playground and outdoor learning spaces that encourage exploration, imagination, and connection with nature. We’re proud of our diverse community. Our students come from more than twenty countries, bringing rich languages and cultures that make our school stronger. We’re committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued, and ready to learn. Strong relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Community Partnerships
At Rogers Elementary, we know learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Our strong connections across the Bloomington community enrich our students’ experiences and help them see themselves as part of something bigger.
We’re proud to partner with local organizations that bring hands-on, real-world learning to our school. Monthly visits from Bloomington’s Community Outreach Coordinator with the Monroe County Solid Waste Management District invite students to explore nature right on campus—digging for worms, building spider webs, and learning to recognize local bird calls.
Our students also enjoy field trips that connect classroom learning to the wider world. Destinations like the Constellation Stage & Screen theater, Peden Farm, and Indiana University’s Musical Arts Center give children memorable experiences in the arts, agriculture, and performance. These opportunities expand horizons, spark curiosity, and create lasting memories.
Our close proximity to Indiana University opens the door to even more collaboration. Student teachers, daily volunteers, and university classes meeting in our building bring fresh perspectives, extra support, and new learning experiences that strengthen our school community and benefit our students.
